Diablo: Sanctuary Falls
Runes and Sacrifice
The skills of Diablo are few in number compared to those in 4e, yet you can put 20 points in each of them(Diablo 2) or attach runes to an ability(Diablo 3). Therefore, a line will be added to each power, naming the benefits of taking the power more than once, instead of choosing a new power. All powers are available at any level.
Runes are available to the D3 classes(Demon hunter, monk, witch doctor) It works functionally the same as the sacrifice system for the D2 characters: When you level, you may forsake picking a new ability, and choose to power up an already chosen power from a previous level. Each type of power At-will, Encounter, and Daily provides a different rune in the form of a Lesser, Prime, or Legendary rune.
Sacrifice an At-Will power upon level up: Lesser Rune
Lesser runes add a Elemental damage bonus to a power. When you first sacrifice a an At-will, you pick an elemental damage type; the Chosen power gains a 1d6 damage bonus of that element.
Example: If you have a power that deals 1[W], and you add a lesser rune of fire to this ability it now would deal 1[W] + 1d6 fire damage.
You can sacrifice as many at will powers to power up your attack ability. However your character would lack versatility to be careful. A new element may not be chosen until a new at-will power is runed. For instance if your ability has 2 fire runes in it for a total of 2d6 fire, you may pick a new element for your next lesser rune but it changes the element of the attack itself i.e. the attack would now deal 3d6 lightning. Meaning you CANNOT have an ability that deals multiple types of damages through this feature.
Sacrifice an Encounter power: Prime Rune
A Prime Rune not only increases the abilities primary damage, but may add a type as well. So for instance a 1[W] at-will ability could now become a 2[w] at-will that deals fire damage instead of say the ability’s original damage type of Arcane. A 1d6 damaging ability would become a 2d6, so on and so forth.
The same rules apply, you may add as many Prime Runes to an ability as you want, but the attack may only retain one element chosen at that particular level up.
Sacrifice a Daily power: Legendary Rune
A Legendary Rune Increases damage exponentially. It adds 3[W] to an ability
